Planting our vegetable garden

Planting our vegetable garden                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Last week we planted vegetables in our class garden. Before we started to plant Mrs Agnew had us examine the plants and I noticed that some of the plants were starting to die. We had kept them in the classroom for nearly a week because we couldn't plant them because it had been too windy and rainy.
They needed water.
We took the plants to the garden and we had to make the soil soft by turning the soil over and breaking it into pieces. The we dug little holes to fit our seedling in. We took the seedlings out by gently hitting the bottom of the tray. Then we gently turned the plant upside down and carefully removed the container from the soil and plant.
I planted courgette and made sure the soil was firm around the plant. I hope it grows now that it can be watered. Finally we spread broken eggshells over the plants to prevent snails from eating them.
It is important to plant vegetables at school and home because it is cheaper to get fresh, nutritious food.

Saving money

Today we got a visitor from the ASB bank. Her name is Nicky and she works there. She taught us  how to save money while we're still young. She first asked us what are dreams for the future.I said I wanted to be a good swimmer but i also want to be a gamer. She then told us about a story boy who took it really seriously. He wanted to be a rugby player but his parents had no money. Then he went to ten of his neighbours and asked them if he could do any errands for them and every now every Tuesday after school he goes to his neighbours houses and out the trash for them for five dollars. After that she told us that some students come out of college with a sixty Thousand dollar loan. She said that to get the things you need to make  money you need to spend money and she showed us an example. She said you made a lemonade stand but you spend three dollars on sugar and two dollars on plastic cups but you earn ten dollars so your profit is five dollars since you needed to pay the money spent on doing the lemonade stand. Then Nicky wrote  cash vertically on the board. She said that C stands for clear goal which meant what you wanted,A stands for action which  means how your gonna do it,S stands for save  which you probably already  know what it means, H stands for how long is it going to take.We needed to save up for a one hundred dollar phone  and we save ten dollar a week so that means it will take ten weeks. Nicky then said that putting your money in the bank is better than putting  money in a       moneybox or a piggy bank because the bank gives you interest. She said we should start training while we're young because she wanted to be a ballerina but she started too soon. I learned a lot today.

Making Tukutuku Mats

This term we have been learning about making tukutuku patterns and how you can see them in a
wharenui on the walls. A wharenui is a meeting house. I made a tukutuku mat and I think
I did a pretty good job. To make it we needed a cardboard loom and strips of black and red
paper. We had to weave the strips in and out and secure them on the edge of the loom with glue.

Smart Relationship Qualities

This week of Cyber smart we made structures out of Marshmallow and spaghetti.
Mrs Collins challenged us to make the tallest tower we could make as a group.
We didn't have much resources since we only had 8 Marshmallow's and 12                                               spaghetti noodles which were raw.
We started off by planing  how to build the tower and then we started building.
Our original plan didn't so we had to start again.
Our tower was 8 cm tall because we didn't have enough time but we showed                                             some great teamwork.
